Liroconite on Quartz (Ref: MK304)
Wheal Gorland, St Day, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom
62mm x 50mm x 40mm
$9800
Good sized and exceptionally rich specimen of Lironconite and Quartz from Cornwall. The Lironconite is present on all sides and the color is outstanding, an intense teal blue. The crystals are good sized and reach up to 1cm wide. The last photo shows a 4cm terminated Quartz crystal with an isolated 9mm Lironconite attached (along with other Lironconite). An adventurous trimmer could likely turn this into 2-3 good specimens, including one with the terminated Quartz crystal, but I like it as is for it's richness and size. Liroconite is a rare copper species with the best specimens found at this mine, which is also the type locality for the species. Wheal Gorland began operation in 1792 and the best Liroconite specimens were found in the mid 1800s. The combination of rarity and beauty keep these in high demand and they are only rarely available for sale.Data last checked on 28th Jul 2024 - specimen may no longer be available
