Charlesite (Ref: 5270)

Wessels Mine | Kuruman | Kalahari-Mn-Fields | South Africa
44mm x 36mm x 22mm
$428 *
A very excellent miniature-sized specimen of the rare and geochemically extremely complex mineral species Charlesite which is member of the Ettringite group. It is from the famous Wessels Mine in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Charlesite forms parallel-intergrown prismatic crystals of sulfur yellow color with sections that are gemmy. The crystal faces are lustrous and the terminations are largely excellent. This unique specimen is older material from the late 1980s and, to my knowledge, no significant pieces have been found since then.
Data last checked on 28th Jul 2024 - specimen may no longer be available
