new find - gem RHODOCHROSITE (Ref: 21292)
Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico
36mm x 25mm x 12mm
$680
A gorgeous specimen of sparkling gem rhodochrosite crystals from the famous Santa Eulalia District, Chihuahua, Mexico. This is from a new find, most likely in the Main Silicate orebody, Potosi mine, West Camp. It displays transparent, clear and gem rhodochrosite crystals to 9mm. They have an intense and rich cherry-red color. The crystals are with a sharp scalenohedral shape. The faces have a glassy luster. The quality is excellent - marvelous color and clarity so the crystals just glow. The tobacco colored boitroidial mineral covering the base is probably caryopilite. The deposit has produced these treasures long time ago and pieces like this have always been scarce. Santa Eulalia is one of the prime rhodochrosite localities in the world, rivaling NChwaning Mines and Sweet Home Mine. For references see the 2018 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 49, # 1. In very good condition – some small contacts. On acrylic base., Beauty!, Data last checked on 28th Jul 2024 - specimen may no longer be available
