Fluorite & Galena (Ref: 6235)
Blackdene Mine | Ireshopeburn | Stanhope | Durham | England
123mm x 114mm x 66mm
$481 *
A very nice cabinet-sized Fluorite-Galena specimen from the British Blackdene Mine in Durham. It exhibits excellent daylight fluorescence: in sunlight, the water-clear, 0.7 cm measuring Fluorite cubes glow purple; significantly more intense than in the photo studio under tungsten light as shown in the pictures. In addition, many of the Fluorite crystals with an excellent vitreous luster are beautifully twinned and are associated with lead-grey Galena crystals with a metallic luster. The famous Blackdene Mine, located north of the River Wear and the villages of St. John´s Chapel and Ireshopeburn, produced a large number of excellent specimens over the years until its closure in 1987. These are now scattered in numerous collections all around the world. This is a great opportunity to add an excellent British Fluorite specimen to your collection. It certainly does not have the largest Fluorite crystals but it does have excellent color, luster and aesthetic impact.Data last checked on 4th Feb 2025 - specimen may no longer be available
