Calcite with Hematite (Ref: PE1266)

Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico
225mm x 158mm x 84mm
minID: 1EJ-39W
$595
Dominated by a pristine, doubly-terminated Calcite with rich red color and great luster, measuring 92 x 48 mm, this very aesthetic large cabinet-sized specimen hosts hundreds of lustrous, sharp dog-tooth Calcite crystals, partly included and partly coated with brick-red Hematite. A later generation of gemmy, clear and lustrous, block Calcites have partly overgrown and fill in the spaces between the earlier Calcites. One large Hematite-coated dog-tooth Calcite with cleaved tip, measuring 45 x 45 x 40 mm, rises above the field of smaller Calcites. This huge specimen is likely from the Potosi Mine, and is much more flashy in person than the photos can capture. Except for the one cleave, it it damage free. This specimen dates to about the mid 1960s when the Paul Edwards collection was assembled.
