A large crystal of quartz with an outer layer of amethyst at the termination; the prism faces of the quartz shown a thin secondary growth of tan-colored quartz. The bottom of the crystal is broken, but is recrystallized - this reveals a complex interior: cloudy to the left side and gemmy towards the right. Amethyst specimens from the Organ District are rarely seen. The specimen shows a number of chips as well as some rough surfaces caused by growth interference.Data last checked on 16th Oct 2024
