iridescent POLYBASITE (Ref: 21333)

Husky Mine, Elsa, Galena Hill, Mayo mining district, Yukon, Canada
18mm x 18mm x 8mm
$2200
A now legendary and extremely rare specimen of iridescent polybasite from Husky Mine, Yukon, Canada. This former Ag-Pb-Zn mine, now closed and water-filled, produced these unique iridescent polybasite specimens in the 1970s and 1980s in very limited numbers. In 1977, miners Joe Weinholtzner and Rod Shiletto collected some of the world's finest polybasite and stephanite from Stope 302.  It displays a killer flower formed by parallel, hexagonal and sharp polybasite plates. The dark metallic rose has an exceptional quality with lustrous faces and gorgeous iridescence in purple, blue and green, when properly lit. The entire specimen is sprinkled with micro yellow crystals, probably chalcopyrite. It has a very three dimensional and sharp shape. It displays beautifully all over. For references see the 2021 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 52, # 1. In excellent condition - some minor nicks. On acrylic base., World-class, competition level iridescent polybasite – enrichment for every top collection!
