Aragonite "Cave Pearls" from Austria (Ref: DC24-PEARLS)
Styrian Erzberg, Eisenerz, Styria, Austria
93mm x 81mm x 30mm
$650
This unusual aragonite specimen from Austria is commonly referred to as Cave Pearls or sometimes Bird's Nest aragonite. These form in caves and mines where a thin layer of white aragonite covers the matrix material and there is a natural indentation where matter can collect. The "pearls" start with something small like a grain of sand and then accumulate aragonite to form these bean-like pebbles. Sometimes the pearls fuse to the floor, and sometimes they are all loose. In this specimen there are 9 visible pearls with 8 loose and 1 fused onto the main structure.Data last checked on 16th Oct 2024 - specimen may no longer be available
