Sphalerite (Ref: 1889)

Here we have a superb specimen richly covered with mirror bright, brown and gemmy Sphalerite crystals from the well known Irish locality of Mogul Mine. The Mogul Mine near the village of Silvermines in County Tipperary, is famous for its fabulous world class Galena and also great Sphalerite specimens which were found in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Little, if anything, was known of these specimens outside the village, yet a few miners took home any attractive specimens, mainly of Galena and/or ruby Sphalerite as they felt them too good to pass through the crushers. And this stunning and scintillating piece was part of these great finds, which are still history. Very rare stuff and consequently exceedingly desired and hard to come by nowadays.
