Phosphophyllite (Ref: 6490)

Phosphophyllite is definitely member of the ´holy grail´ of the mineral world and good specimens like this one are treasured by the owners since decades and they are practically not available from every locale in the world. But this gorgeous piece comes from the TYPE LOCALITY, the Bavarian Hagendorf pegmatite near Weiden in the Upper Paltinate. These exceedingly tapering crystals here are very well defined, super sharp and extremely gemmy. They are showing a fine light sky blue colour and reaching 1,3 cm in lenght. This species was always rare at this locale and mostly found as crusts or microcrystals,- but these are large and well visible crystals and since the closure and flooding of the mine, such great items completely disappeared from the market. This specimen is both, super rare and super aesthetic.
